I write, mostly about books, sometimes about architecture and design. Sometimes these things are a means of writing about something else – a way of getting closer to the truth of a situation.

As Turner makes his entrance on the new polymer £20 note, it seemed like a good time to visit his Twickenham villa - where he lived, and which he designed himself.
